Which sockets are worth making smart?
In the case of sockets, there are two options worth considering. One is when we want to control the power supply of sockets from a safety technical point of view (e.g. in a child's room).
In this case, we can also decide that Shelly will only be installed behind certain sockets, or we can also choose to control the power supply to all sockets at the same time. In this case, Shelly is usually installed next to the small circuit breaker.
The other popular option is when large consumers (e.g. washing machines, boilers, dryers, air purifiers, multimedia devices), i.e. where machines that consume a significant amount of electricity are plugged in, are installed with a shell that can also measure performance.
What about making light switches smarter?
Smart light switches have several beneficial features. Perhaps the most important is the convenience factor, meaning you don't have to go over and press the switch to control the light. You can also see in which room of your home a light is left on.
It can also perform a security function, so instead of an alarm system, we can keep unauthorized intruders away from our home with a smaller investment. Thanks to the presence simulator, the system is able to remember our habits and turn on the lights even when we are not in the house.
Besides being fashionable, brightness and color temperature control can also add a lot to our everyday habits. For example, if we use a room in our home for multiple activities, we can adjust the lights to suit them. We can set the brightness to be more subdued for relaxation, or even more intense for family board games.
How should we choose the smart home system that best suits our lifestyle?
We can of course give you ideas, but it is important that you will ultimately live in the finished smart home. That is why if you feel that there is a question that you cannot decide yet during the planning stage, you do not need to be afraid! We recommend that you try to make one room of your home smarter, as this way you can test the system with little effort and tailor it to your own needs and lifestyle.
