Smart home system takeover
Has your system been left on its own? We take it over: we audit it, put it in order, document it and, if you like, run it for you.
Many smart homes start well and then get left on their own: the installer is no longer reachable, nobody knows how things are set up, and every update feels like a risk. Most of these systems aren’t bad – they just have no one looking after them. Quite a few of our clients came to us this way, so we have a well-established process for taking over a system.
When should you get in touch?
- your installer is no longer reachable or won’t support the system any more;
- you don’t know how things are set up, and there is no documentation;
- some automations don’t start, and devices disappear from the interface;
- the central unit is worn out, or hasn’t worked properly since an update;
- you don’t know whether the system has a backup.
Audit
We map the whole system: the central unit, the network, the devices, the automations, the interface, and what sends alerts to whom. During the audit we change nothing – we only look at how everything works. For every finding we mark what we measured, what we infer, and what we can’t be sure of. At the end you get an overview of the system’s condition, the risks and the recommended steps.
Recommendation and quote
We talk through what is worth fixing, and in what order. Anything urgent (a missing backup, for example) comes first; anything that can wait comes later. Based on the recommendation you receive an itemised quote.
Recovery
If needed, we restore the system from a backup onto a new central unit, update it, and tidy up the room assignments, device names and interface. Your settings and automations are kept; anything that didn’t work we fix as agreed.
Documentation
You get the same handover documentation as with a new system built by us: what is in the house, where, with what settings, and how to use the system.
Operation or handover
You can choose between two paths. If you like, we keep running the system with one of the Yabune Service packages: monitoring, backups and updates. If you’d rather take it on yourself or hand it to someone else, we give you full access so it keeps working without us.
Which systems do we take over?
Mainly Home Assistant-based systems, whether they run on a Raspberry Pi, a mini PC or a virtual machine, and whether they use Zigbee, Z-Wave or Wi-Fi devices (such as Shelly or Sonoff). We can run these the same way as our own. For other platforms, after the audit we tell you whether it’s worth keeping or whether you’re better off switching, and in that case we also assess which of your existing devices can be carried over.
