Smart lighting isn't smart because you turn it on from your phone. It's because it automatically becomes what it should be: cool white in the morning, warm in the evening, dim for watching movies, and you don't have to touch anything.
Yabune Home is manufacturer-independent, so you don't have to commit to a single brand. Smart bulb, smart switch or dimmable LED strip — they all come together on one interface and can all be controlled by the same rules.
Brightness and color temperature that adapts to the time of day
The effect of light on your well-being can be measured. In the morning, cooler, bluer light helps you wake up, while in the evening, warmer, yellower light doesn't interfere with falling asleep. You don't have to adjust this manually: the system adjusts to the time of day and deviates from it as much as you want.
Scenes at the touch of a button
Most rooms have not one light, but four or five. A scene sets them all at once: „dinner” dims the kitchen counter and turns on the light above the dining room, „movie” turns off everything except the mood lighting. The same can be triggered from a wall switch, phone or voice control.
Movement, presence, outdoor space
- At night, the bathroom does not turn on with full light, but with a dim night setting.
- It switches on when moving and turns off by itself — this is most often forgotten when it is on.
- Outdoor lighting adjusts to sunset, not to a fixed time, and can be activated by movement.
- Imitation of presence in absence: the lights switch on and off lifelike, not according to a clockwork.
With what means?
There is no single right answer — it depends on the characteristics of the apartment. If there is a phase and a neutral in the switch box, a smart switch is the most stable and cheapest: a Shelly module, the wall works the same as before. If there is no zero, the smart bulb is the way to go.
What you should know before you get started
- Neutral wire in the switch. This determines whether a smart switch or a smart bulb is the right direction. It is worth having it installed when renovating.
- Retaining traditional switches. It's important that the wall works too — for guests, for children, and even if the network goes down.
- Dimmable. Not all LEDs are dimmable; flickering is difficult to fix afterwards.
- Uniform color temperature. If you put mixed brands of bulbs in a room, „warm white” doesn’t mean the same thing to all of them.
Why isn't a motion sensor enough?
The motion sensor knows when something has moved. Not whether you're sitting there reading — that's why the bathroom light turns off when you're taking a shower, and why most people know it as "that annoying thing.".
A presence-based solution looks at more than that: movement, door opening, time of day, and whether anyone is home at all. Newer presence sensors (mmWave) also detect people who are not moving. This way, the light is on when you need it and doesn't turn off when you're not around.
The switch remains a switch.
One thing to decide at the beginning: the wall switch should work even when the system is not available. Guests, children, maintenance — not everyone will take out a phone. Therefore, in well-designed smart lighting, the traditional switch does not disappear, it just gets new capabilities: long press to turn on a scene, double press to turn off everything.
What we work with
- Shelly — relay and dimmer modules (Shelly Plus 1, Plus 2PM, Dimmer, RGBW) installed behind the switch to control lamps and LED strips; locally, without a cloud.
- Marketcom — Shelly's domestic distributor, we purchase the devices from there.
- Smart bulbs (Philips Hue, IKEA Trådfri, TP-Link) — where there is no zero in the switch; we wrote about them in the blog articles above.
